This is also mostly known because of the Hollywood - movie industry which have created an image of it as a symbol for satan worshippers, satanists or who-knows, which has caused an effect that when majority of the public sees this symbol, most of them think you are a satan worshipper or something.
Repeat after me : Pentagram has as much as to do with satan worshipping as does my old socks.
But unalike my old socks, pentagram is old and strong symbol. It roots date back over 6000 years to palestine, to year 4000 B.C., when it was most likely used as a protective symbol in containers and jars. Mostly pentagram was used by Sumerians in 2700 B.C. in sacred rites and situations.
Some of the researchers familiarized with symbols believes, that Sumerians used pentagram as a cosmic symbol which portrayed earth's four corners and arc of the skies. This theory has not got too much support in the middle of the researchers because symbol of cross have had better meaning in the era describing four corners of the world.
After the sumerian culcute disappeared the use of the pentagram vanished for a long time after it came back again into pythagorean - mystic, where it has been estimated to ment a human. Points describe head, hands and feets, and although this interpretation underestimated the mathematical intelligence of knowledge of the pythegoreans, symbol was widely used during 400 B.C.
The only reliable known usage of the pentagram is that it was used as a official seal of the Jerusalem during 300-1500 B.C. and it was called as a Salomon seal or Salomon shield in jewish mysticism.
Pentagram-alike symbols have also seen much in pre-columbic America and in Maya-culture, where it has represented a morning- and evening star, Venus.
Pentagram is also sometimes known as star of east, and as of this, it is identical to the morning star and to the planet Venus, which is also known as goddesses of war Ischtar and Astarte.
